The Special Resolution is passed and the Constitution is changed. The organisation is now Chartered Secretaries Australia (CSA) Ltd. The aim of the organisation is to promote the interests of the company secretary and other governance professionals and ensure that through education and academic qualification the practical skills of the Chartered Secretary are of a high order.

Explanatory Notes for the Special General Meeting of Chartered Secretaries Australia Ltd on changing the Constitution sent to members.

The name of the organisation changes again to the Chartered Institute of Company Secretaries in Australia Ltd.

1995


A new name of the Institute of Corporate Managers, Secretaries and Administrators Ltd is announced.

1989


More consolidation occurs with the merger of the Institute of Business Administration.

1987


The organisation is renamed the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators — Australian Division.

1971


First issue of the journal The Secretary published.

1949

All Australian bodies merged under the name Chartered Institute of Secretaries — Australian Branch. This organisation is the Australian division of the international Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. At this time, another independent group, the Institute of Incorporated Secretaries merges.

1947

Another independent group called the Institute of Incorporated Secretaries founded. It creates a Melbourne branch in 1931.

Brisbane
Creation of the Queensland Branch of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries.

1920

Melbourne
Creation of Victorian Branch of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries.

1917

Sydney
Second overseas branch of the London body established in Australia. It is called the Chartered Institute of Secretaries.

1914

Melbourne
Institute of Secretaries of Victoria formed and it too is independent of the London body.

1913

Sydney
Australian Institute of Secretaries of Joint Stock Companies and other Public Bodies established. It is independent of the London body.

1909

Johannesburg
First overseas branch established in South Africa.

1909

London
The Society is 1500 strong and obtains incorporation under a Royal Charter. The members of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries of Joint Stock Companies and other Public Bodies become known as Chartered Secretaries. Election to membership is in the main subject to passing a qualifying examination.

1902

London
A number of influential company secretaries join together and form a Society for promoting their professional interests.
