Where are you in your career?
CSA's aim is to provide the highest quality ongoing support and information to governance professionals at every point of their careers. For this reason, we are constantly developing new ways of engaging with people who require accurate and up-to-date knowledge, skills and information on a wide range of governance and risk management specialty areas.
Depending on your previous experience and current stage of your career, you will have specific needs relating to the type and depth of training, education or update information you require to be effective in your role. CSA has various access points for all levels of seniority.
Covering the fundamentals
For those who require a broad overview of governance principles, CSA's website has a 'Governance for beginners' section that provides basic information and links to CSA-developed practical tools and guides, as well as links to relevant external sites and sources. For those who require an overview of the core duties of a company secretary, CSA's Accidental Company Secretary¨ training program is a good starting point, providing insights and practical examples to assist in fulfilling various governance responsibilities.
Governance career development
As your developing career demands a greater appreciation of more governance and risk management areas, CSA provides a wide range of training programs that provide the flexibility to cover the specific areas you need to examine. Enrolling in a CSA Certificate course and successfully completing a suitable mix of six training programs, including an online examination, will provide you with a nationally recognised industry qualification. It will also entitle you to apply for Certificated membership, providing a formal and ongoing relationship with CSA.
Moving to a senior governance role
At a certain stage in your career you will need to gain an in-depth understanding of good governance principles in order to perform or move into a senior role. At this point you will need the rigour and quality of a postgraduate education program that delivers practical skills and knowledge across governance and risk subjects, taught by leading academics and expert practitioners. Successful completion of CSA's Graduate Diploma of Applied Corporate Governance will lead to an invitation to apply for membership at the Associate level.
Lifelong learning and relationship
Senior governance practitioners keep their knowledge and understanding of governance principles current through their ongoing relationship with CSA. This may include attending professional development sessions, Annual Corporate Updates, Public Sector Updates and CSA's National Conference. Fellows and Associates often participate in regular state-based discussion groups and many become involved in training and educating the next generation of governance professionals by becoming course presenters or subject advisers with CSA. Some senior Members also participate on our technical committees, providing the expertise that enables CSA to work with government and regulators as an independent body that influences governance thinking and behaviour in Australia.
