Becoming a governance professional
Governance encompasses the system by which an organisation is controlled and operates, and the mechanisms by which it, and its people, are held to account. Ethics, risk management, compliance and administration are all elements of governance.
A governance professional drives and advises on best practice in governance; champions the compliance framework to safeguard the integrity of the organisation; promotes, and is the sounding board on high standards of ethical and corporate behaviour; and bridges the interests of the board or governing body, management and stakeholders.
Graduates of Australia’s only internationally recognised postgraduate qualification focused entirely on governance and risk management will be well-equipped to make a major contribution to the proper conduct and administration of companies and other organisations, including public sector agencies, not only in Australia but throughout the world.
Chartered Secretaries Australia’s fully higher education accredited Graduate Diploma of Applied Corporate Governance is a tangible demonstration of an individual’s expertise in, and commitment to, effective governance and risk management. It is also a ‘must have’ qualification for company secretaries and advisers to senior management; those responsible for the effective guidance and management of the accountability mechanisms of an organisation; and those who aspire to be a valuable member of the board.
Our postgraduate qualification has been developed in response to employers and investors increasingly demanding that those charged with governance responsibilities have the skill and expertise to promote excellence in corporate conduct and administration. This rigorous course is designed to achieve precisely that goal.
The current financial environment highlights the need for all companies to have in place a sound
system of corporate governance designed to ensure that they are best placed to manage the risks of
their business and react quickly to ongoing challenges. The role of well trained and experienced
governance advisers is a crucial part of any effective governance framework.
